Legal work that moves with creative work
Margenta's three engagement tiers are structured to reflect the realities of creative production in Malaysia. An independent performer or writer signing their first significant agreement has different needs from a production company assembling documentation for a slate heading to distribution. Both need careful, considered legal input — but the scope, depth, and timeframe of that input differ.
Each engagement begins with a structured intake conversation, at no charge, to understand the situation and identify which tier is appropriate. From there, work proceeds according to an agreed scope and a fee that is confirmed before any billable work begins. No scope expansion without agreement. No surprise fees at the end.
The closing conversation is a standard part of every engagement. When the advisory note or rights summary is delivered, there is time set aside for the client to ask questions, check understanding, and clarify what their next steps should be before responding to the other side.
Agreement Review
Typically concludes within 5–7 working days of intake
Production & Rights
Scoped around the production calendar — timelines agreed at intake
Media Rights Programme
Long-term relationship with quarterly written reporting
Engagement 01
Talent & Production Agreement Review
RM 680 per engagement
A focused engagement for performers, writers, directors, content creators, and producers who have been presented with an agreement and want a careful, plain-language review before signing. The work begins with a structured intake to understand the project and the client's role within it. The team then reads the agreement closely, with particular attention to scope of services, ownership of created work, credit and approval rights, exclusivity, payment mechanics, and termination. A clearly written advisory note follows, grouped by significance, with suggestions for amendments where they appear warranted. A short conversation closes the engagement so the client can ask questions before responding to the other side.
- Structured intake to understand project context
- Close reading of all material provisions
- Plain-language advisory note grouped by significance
- Amendment suggestions where warranted
- Closing conversation before client responds to other side
Best for: performers, writers, directors, content creators, independent producers

Production, Distribution & Rights Management
RM 1,250 per engagement
A considered engagement for production companies, content studios, and rights-holders managing the documentation around a project from development through distribution. The work covers preparation or review of option agreements, writers' agreements, talent agreements, location releases, music clearances, and distribution arrangements. Where chain-of-title is being assembled for an upcoming release, the team prepares a written summary of the rights position so the client can speak to financiers, distributors, and platforms with confidence. Throughout, the engagement is structured around the project's calendar, so legal work fits the realities of production rather than running on a separate clock.
- Option, writers', and talent agreement drafting or review
- Location release and music clearance handling
- Distribution arrangement review
- Written chain-of-title summary for financiers and platforms
- Work structured around the production calendar
Best for: production companies, content studios, independent producers managing a project through to release

Engagement 03
Comprehensive Media Rights & Disputes Programme
RM 2,100 per period
A more substantial engagement for established creators, studios, and rights-holders who want considered support across a portfolio of projects. The programme covers ongoing advisory on contract templates and standard terms, careful management of new project agreements as they come in, considered guidance during disputes that arise around credit, royalties, or rights interpretation, and quarterly written reporting on matters handled. Where the client is preparing for a financing round or a strategic partnership, the engagement also covers preparation of the rights story for due diligence. Engagement is structured as a long-term relationship rather than reactive support, so the client's creative team can focus on creative work while legal matters are calmly held in the background.
- Ongoing advisory on contract templates and standard terms
- Management of new project agreements as they arrive
- Guidance on credit, royalty, and rights interpretation disputes
- Quarterly written reporting on all matters handled
- Rights story preparation for financing and partnership due diligence
Best for: established studios, rights-holders managing a portfolio, creators preparing for financing or strategic partnerships
